Posted: Fri Dec 21, 2007 4:24 am Post subject: unity or diversity? Non-Muslims, pls assert your diversity.
I would like to commend Malaysian Prime Minister Badawi for agreeing to establish a department of non-Muslim affairs on 18/19 Dec 2007. Mr.Badawi is a man of peace and kindness. Please do support Mr.Badawi. The establishment of a department of non-Muslim affairs will help the non-Muslim communities to take care of the problems of non-Muslims. Muslims already have a department of Islamic affairs, and therefore it is only fair that a department of non-Muslim affairs be established too.
We do not know if Prime Minister Badawi of Malaysia was serious or not serious when he agreed to consider establishing a department of non-Muslim Affairs. Please do ask Mr.Badawi to state clearly his intention. If Muslim Malaysians want to have a department of Islamic Affairs, then there is nothing the non-Muslim Malaysians can do about it because it has nothing to do with non-Muslim Malaysians. The non-Muslim Malaysians can, however, request for a department of non-Muslim Affairs.
Please do inform all the non-Muslim communities immediately to monitor this matter closely. We have to maintain a vigil. We have to pray for it. If a department of non-Muslim affairs is established, the Muslims and non-Muslims can co-exist in peace and harmony. All Muslim issues can be taken care of by the department of Islamic affairs, while all the non-Muslim issues can be handled by the department of non-Muslim affairs; and this is the way to co-exist in peace and harmony.
Terms like national unity and national integration are often used by the politicians to mislead the people. What does national unity and national integration mean? It all depends on whom you ask. Terms like national unity and national integration as a national policy are dangerous terms. Terms like national unity and national integration as a national policy are used to assimilate people. Terms like national unity and national integration as a national policy are used to convert people from one religion to another religion. Terms like national unity and national integration are indeed dangerous terms.
Malaysia has cultural and religious diversity. We have to preserve the cultural and religious diversity of Malaysia. National diversity is important. We have to have an assurance that the diversity of Malaysia is not affected by the so called national unity. National unity and diversity are diagonally opposed. Please preserve diversity. Please pray for diversity. Canada is a bilingual nation. Switzerland has four languages. They preserve their diversity. Ultimately, unity and diversity are both important. Muslims already have a department of Islamic affairs, and therefore it is only fair that a department of non-Muslim affairs be established too. It will help to preserve diversity in Malaysia without affecting unity.
……………………………………………………………………
Terms like national unity and national integration are indeed dangerous terms for the non-Muslim population of Malaysia.
When Lee Kuan Yew struggled for equality in the early 1960’s, the Muslim Malaysians responded by abruptly expelling Singapore from the Malaysian Federation. A few years later in 1969, again when there was a quest for equality from non-Muslim Malaysians, it resulted in race riots. We do not want demonstrations and riots, which are hurtful. I hope the Muslim population in Malaysia would consider the aspirations of the non-Muslim population of Malaysia. I hope it would not be asking too much if the Muslim Malaysians would accept “separate but equal”. “Separate but equal” was used to establish segregation in USA in the early 1900’s, whereby many whites only and non-whites only institutions were established. (Segregation has outlived its usefulness in the USA of today) May be Malaysia may be ready for “separate but equal”. “Separate but equal” is better that riots and demonstrations any day. There is an old saying, “Do not get mad, but get even”. Getting mad/pagal is counterproductive. Getting even is better. Try “separate but equal”. To my non-Muslim Malaysian brothers/bhai and sisters/bahin I say that do not engage in demonstrations, but you do have the right to request “separate but equal”, which is better than riots any day. Value peace. Promote peace. Promote peaceful coexistence. Support “separate but equal”.
Muslim-leadership of non-Muslim Malaysians may be unacceptable to some non-Muslim Malaysians because non-Muslim Malaysians have their own respective leaders, religion, language, and culture. Muslim-led social engineering of non-Muslim Malaysians may be unacceptable to some non-Muslim Malaysians because non-Muslim Malaysians have their own respective leaders, religion, language, and culture. The Muslim Malaysians have already established a department of Islamic Affairs, which tacitly separates the Muslims from the non-Muslims. The Muslim Malaysians have already established a department of Islamic Affairs, which tacitly paves the way for segregation in all other aspects of life in Malaysia. The day the Muslim Malaysians established the department of Islamic Affairs, is the day the Muslim Malaysians had paved the way for segregation to take hold in Malaysia. It is the Muslim Malaysians who started the segregation process in Malaysia, and therefore may I suggest that they continue with the same tradition of segregating as many institutions as possible.
Malaysia’s national constitution has never been known for egalitarianism. Though Islam is the official religion in Malaysia’s constitution, the ground reality is that Malaysia is a multi-religious nation. The ground reality is the ground reality. Nothing can change the ground reality. Therefore, Muslim-led social engineering of non-Muslim Malaysians may be unacceptable to some non-Muslim Malaysians because non-Muslim Malaysians have their own respective leaders, religion, language, and culture. Please resist Muslim-led social engineering of non-Muslim Malaysians. To resist Muslim led social engineering of non-Muslim Malaysians, please support “separate but equal”. To bypass Muslim led social engineering of non-Muslim Malaysians, please support “separate but equal”. To skip Muslim led social engineering of non-Muslim Malaysians, please support “separate but equal”. To circumvent Muslim led social engineering of non-Muslim Malaysians, please support “separate but equal”. To dodge Muslim led social engineering of non-Muslim Malaysians, please support “separate but equal”. This is how you do it. If my non-Muslim Malaysian brothers/bhai and sisters/bahin face a crisis, please do not get mad/pagal, but please do immediately ask for “separate but equal” at all levels. We have to ensure that the ethnic Chinese and Hindu religions, cultures, and languages survive in Malaysia for the next 2000 years.
For instance, they have the Malay Regiment in the armed forces, and so the next thing to do is to have non-Muslim Regiment in Malaysia. The national service for the youth can also be divided into separate regiment for Muslim Malaysian national service and another regiment for non-Muslim Malaysian national service.
“Separate but equal” is good because it will help the Muslim Malaysians to perpetuate their culture, religion, and language. “Separate but equal” is good because it will help the non-Muslim Malaysians to perpetuate their culture, religion, and language too. The ground realities in Malaysia are that Malaysia is a multi-religious nation and “separate but equal” will perpetuate that. All the various religions in Malaysia have their own respective loyalties. Muslim Malaysians have close ties with Indonesia and the other predominantly Muslim nations of this world. Chinese Malaysians have close cultural ties with China. Hindu Malaysians have close ties with India. This is the reality of Malaysia, and there is a need to recognize that.
In line with “separate but equal” we, pretty much, need two governments inside Malaysia: one for the Muslims and another for the non-Muslims, existing side by side. Terms like national unity and national integration are indeed dangerous terms for the non-Muslim population of Malaysia. What does national unity or national integration mean? It all depends on whom you ask. Terms like national unity and national integration as a national policy are dangerous terms. Terms like national unity and national integration as a national policy are used to assimilate people. Terms like national unity and national integration as a national policy are used to convert people from one religion to another religion. Terms like national unity and national integration are indeed dangerous terms.
For example, I have an incident to relate from which I learned something. Many years ago, I met a Chinese Malaysian young student/vidyarthi from Penang. His parents sent him to a Malay language school in Penang. He could read and write Malay, but could not read and write in Chinese, his mother tongue. In USA, he wanted to learn English as a second language (ESL) before proceeding to take a regular course in an American university. He had to fill out an ESL course form which required him to state his first language. He consulted me and asked me what he should write as his first language. I told him that if he could not read or write in Chinese, then he cannot claim Chinese as his first language. His problem was that he was unwilling to state Malay as his first language in the form. I watched him for a while. Every 5 minutes he would put the pen on the form and immediately retrieve it. He would think for 5 minutes, then put the pen on the form, only to retrieve it immediately. This retrieving of the pen from the form went on for a while. He never could make himself write in the form that Malay was his first language. I lost my patience and walked away. I would never ever know how he eventually filled out the form. It occurred to me that his parents/mata-pita had done him a grave injustice by not sending him to a Chinese school. To my Chinese Malaysian brothers/bhai and sisters/bahin I say that please do send your children to Chinese language schools. For example, I understand that the former Prime Minister of Singapore, Lee Kuan Yew, only learned to read and write Chinese after entering politics. Better late than never. China is no small nation, as compared to Malaysia. It has one of the world’s oldest civilizations. China is an economic super power in the making. Chinese Malaysians have good reasons to be proud of their heritage. If Chinese Malaysians do not assert their diversity, then they do not deserve diversity. The onus is on the Chinese Malaysians to decide how their future would be. I would strongly recommend that Chinese Malaysians send their children to Chinese language schools.
When you unite the Malaysian people, they feel unhappy; but when you separate the various communities, they feel happy. When you divide Malaysia into races, they feel happy. When you divide Malaysia into races, the Chinese Malaysians will feel that they can perpetuate their own race, religion, language, and culture and so feel happy. When you divide Malaysia into races, the Hindu Malaysians will feel that they can perpetuate their own race, religion, language, and culture and so feel happy. When you divide Malaysia into races, the Muslim Malaysians will feel that they can perpetuate their own race, religion, language, and culture and so feel happy. Malaysia is not the nation for unity. Malaysia is the nation for diversity. Therefore, try “separate but equal”.
The race riots of 1969 came as a rude awakening for the first Prime Minister of Malaysia. He had grossly overestimated Malaysia’s unity, and in the process grossly underestimated Malaysia’s diversity. He may not be the only politician to underestimate Malaysia’s diversity. There is a difference between the Parliament and ground realities. The politicians are parliament people and often overestimate or underestimate ground realities. Irrespective of what the national constitution states, the ground realities are that Malaysia is a multi-religious nation. Malaysia does have a Batu Caves and Lord Murugan culture. Batu Caves is almost the Hindu parliament for Hindu Malaysians. The onus is on Hindu Malaysians to ensure that the Batu Caves and Lord Murugan culture is perpetuated. As you can clearly see, Malaysia is not the nation for unity. Malaysia is the nation for diversity. To begin with, Malaysians must assert their diversity; and they assert their diversity by demanding “separate but equal”. If Hindu Malaysians do not assert their diversity, then they do not deserve “separate but equal”. National unity and national integration are indeed dangerous terms.
Irrespective of Islam being the official religion in the national constitution of Malaysia, the Kadazan Malaysians do have a separate culture. Kadazan Malaysians should unite with their church groups and assert their diversity. If they do not assert their diversity, then they do not deserve diversity. Malaysia is not the nation for unity. Malaysia is the nation for diversity. Kadazan Malaysian are part of the bumiputra/indigenous population of Malaysia. Most Kadazan Malaysians are Christians. If Kadazan Malaysians are mostly Christians, then why does the federal constitution of Malaysia have Islam as the official religion? The non-Muslim population of Malaysia, who are almost half of the national population, deserve an answer.
In a sense, it is becoming easier for people living far apart to keep in touch. To keep in touch, try the internet. For instance, there are Hindu websites that attract visits from Hindus living in New Zealand to Canada to Singapore to New Delhi. The Indian Diaspora can keep in touch more than ever before. I am sure the Buddhist, Confucianist, and Taoist Diaspora can keep in touch more than ever before using the internet. I wished that I had the internet when I was 18 years old.
I am not opposed to affirmative action programs, public assistance programs, and quota systems. If you have lived in this world long enough, you would know that meritocracy is non-existent in this world. No nation in this world can claim to be a meritocracy. There is no such thing as a meritocracy in this world, besides, may be, in sports. There are lots of people who take advantage of the ignorance of others by confusing them. There are different kinds of Indians, Chinese and Muslims in this world. There are many ways to get ahead and not all the ways are righteous. There are numerous unrighteous ways to get ahead. We do not live in a righteous world. We do live in a competitive world. There are many ways to win, and not all the ways are righteous. Some people are unwilling to accept the old values of starting at entry level and working their way to the top: that is, they want to go straight to the top, like being a supervisor, manager, or CEO. While some people are underrated, there are some people who are overrated. Just because you are at the top it does not mean that you are the best available. For instance, technicians will tell you that engineers know nothing. Technicians are the unsung heroes. There are numerous unsung heroes. Some people will not accept anything less than get rich quick work. Some people will give numerous excuses for being unemployed, even when there is work available. Some females do not care to work and get ahead because they are waiting for a rich male to come by and marry them. Just because a person moves fast in the work environment, it does not mean that the person is productive because if you move too fast you can make mistakes too; and mistakes can be costly. If you think Americans do not make mistakes, then you had better guess again. Yes, there are different kinds of Americans, and Indians are no exception.
Learn a lesson from India. Over the past 20 years in India the regional political parties have done well in the elections. There has been a rise of regionalism in India. The various linguistic groups have asserted their diversity. This is a healthy phenomenon. If you want to keep your diversity, then please assert your diversity. If you do not assert your diversity, then you do not deserve diversity. Diversity is not delivered to you free of charge. You have to earn it. You have to assert your diversity. Is this the age of asserting your diversity? I do not know/malum nahi. You decide for yourself.
Most importantly, the federal constitution of Malaysia has flaws. The federal constitution of Malaysia has an Islamic bias. Almost half of the population of Malaysia is composed of non-Muslims. Some bumiputra Malaysians/indigenous Malaysians are Muslims and some bumiputra Malaysians/indigenous Malaysians are Christians. Why does the federal constitution of Malaysia make Islam the official religion of Malaysia when the population is multi-religious? I think the multi-religious citizens of Malaysia deserve an answer. At least far as I am concerned, in a nation-state the requirement of citizenship is that you must be willing to lay your life for the constitution of Malaysia. If Malaysia’s constitution was secular, then I have no problems with it. But the constitution is not secular. I hereby accuse the constitution of Malaysia for having weakened me. It has rejected me. It has sapped my strength. It has disillusioned me. It has marginalized me. I cannot serve the constitution. You must serve a constitution that you are truly supportive of. I cannot lay my life for the constitution. It may be too late for me because I am much more than 18 years old. But if the Malaysian constitution was secular, and if I was 18 years old, then I would rush to join the armed forces. I know that I have stayed away from the Malaysian armed forces and the civil service for constitutional reasons. I have been denied the opportunity to merge with the constitution of the country of my birth. Thus, I have been forced to find another niche. In January 2008 I found my new niche: the Hindu people. I will merge with the Hindu people. There is no retreat. I can only merge with a national constitution if it is secular. I would be a very different person if Malaysia’s constitution was secular. Today, I am much older than 18 years old. It may be too late for me. I wish the younger generation of non-Muslim Malaysians good luck. There is no Muslim in this world who is qualified to lead me; Yoga is about self-mastery, the chakras, the kundalini, and achieving samadhi. Yes, I do believe in God; in fact, I am God and I do believe in myself. Muslim Malaysian have to accept the fact that human beings are diverse. Therefore, having Islam as the official religion is not acceptable. We may need two constitutions for Malaysia: one for Muslim Malaysians, and one for non-Muslim Malaysians. If Muslim Malaysians have any problems, they can go to the department of Islamic Affairs; and if the non-Muslim Malaysians have any problems, they can go to the department of non-Muslim Affairs. This is the way to co-exist. “Separate but equal” is a good thing.
We have the same problem in Singapore. After Singapore was abruptly expelled from the Malaysian Federation, she got busy trying to evolve a Singaporean culture which did not make much headway. It is the same in USA. White Americans, African Americans, and Hispanic Americans have been sharing USA for a few hundred years and yet (even today) the cities are divided into three sectors: one area which is predominantly White American, one area which is predominantly African American, and one area which is predominantly Hispanic American.
If we allow Chinese Malaysians to perpetuate close ties with China, then they will feel secure and happy. If we allow Hindu Malaysians to perpetuate close ties with India, then they will feel secure and happy. If we allow Muslim Malaysians to perpetuate close ties with Indonesia and other Islamic nations, then they will feel secure and happy. Malaysia is not the nation for unity. Malaysia is the nation for diversity. Therefore, try “separate but equal”.
I hope the non-Muslim Malaysians would ask the Muslim Malaysians if they would accept “separate but equal”. “Separate but equal” is better than riots and demonstrations any day.
I personally would not recommend “separate but equal” to any nation, but I would recommend “separate but equal” to Malaysia. Each nation has to take decisions based on its own realities.

The way to lead life is to never to stop trying. Do not relent. Do not capitulate. Do not surrender. Do not give up. Do not retire. There is no such thing as retire. If you are tired, please take a break. But do not give up. Keep going/ chalte jana. If you fall, please pick yourself up and keep going/chalte jana. If you fail, try again or try something else. One day you will take your last breath. One day your prana/breathing will detach from your mind and body; and your body will decompose. Some people will cremate your body and throw your ashes in a river or sea. After you are cremated, the next generation will continue. The next generation will also not relent. The next generation will also not surrender. The next generation should also not give up. If they are tired, they should take a break. But do not give up. Keep going/chalte jana. If they fall, they should pick themselves up and keep going. If they fail, try again or try something else.
Yoga is not about preparing for the afterlife. In yoga it would not be asking too much if we expect results today. Yoga is about you preparing to deal with today’s world. Our daily tasks are important. Yoga is about you achieving stability to deal with today’s world, not the afterlife. Yoga is about you engaging in self-improvement, achieving stability, and improving your performance in your daily tasks. In yoga we attach greater value to today’s world, not preparing for the afterlife. The afterlife is the afterlife. The afterlife comes later. Later is later. Yoga is about today’s world, not the afterlife. Yoga is about you strengthening yourself so that you will be able to be a more stable person and face today’s world. Physical fitness is a part of Yoga. Through sports and exercise you would be able to achieve personal stability. What happens after you achieve personal stability? There would be a change in your daily tasks after you achieve personal stability. If you have personal stability, you would be able to improve the performance in your daily tasks. Yoga is about you strengthening yourself to face today’s world, to make the world a better place for all of us. One way to engage in self-improvement is to try to never to repeat your mistakes; and this is one way to deal with today’s world. In yoga we will use our strength to shape and reshape this world into a better one. In yoga we demand results today, not preparing for the after life. Our daily tasks are important. You are young only once. You should work hard when you are young because as you grow older, you grow weaker. Do not surrender easily. Do not give up easily. Please keep correcting your mistakes. As much as possible, please do not repeat your mistakes.
Yes, you have to work hard. But what does working hard mean? It all depends on whom you ask. My meaning of working hard is working at two jobs. If you work at two jobs, you can get two pay checks. If you work at one job, then you can get only one pay check. Two pay checks are better than one pay check. Therefore, as much as possible, please work at two jobs. Two jobs means working hard. One job means not working hard. Physical fitness is a part of Yoga. Work is also an exercise. You achieve yoga/union through work. If you work at two jobs, your body will be physically fit. In fact, if you work at two jobs, you would be paid to be physically fit. Imagine being paid to be physically fit. Nothing beats being paid to be physically fit. It’s the best deal in town. In fact, it’s the best deal in the world. Try working at two jobs.
As long as your mind and body are connected by prana/breathing, you will inhale and exhale. As long as you inhale and exhale, you should keep going/chalte jana. As long as you inhale and exhale, you should keep working. Why stop if your body continues to inhale and exhale. Why retire if your body continues to inhale and exhale? There is no such thing as retire. Physical fitness is a part of Yoga. Work is also an exercise. If you work at two jobs, your body will be physically fit. You achieve yoga/union through work. If you are tired, please take a break. But do not give up. Keep going/ chalte jana.
Currency has won its day. Make no mistake about it: currency has won its day. Currency/paisa wins everywhere. Currency always wins. With currency in hand you can have the better life. If you want the better life, work at two jobs to amass currency in your pocket. Forget the politicians and work at two jobs and increase the currency in your pocket.
Ignore the politicians and work at two jobs to amass currency in your pocket. Dodge the politicians and work at two jobs to accumulate currency in your pocket. Sideline the politicians and work at two jobs to amass currency in your wallet/batua. Evade the politicians and work at two jobs to amass currency in your wallet/batua. Currency will give you the better life. Yes, currency has won its day. Make no mistake about it: currency has won its day. Currency always wins.
Please do study the Malaysian market well. The future Hindu Malaysian must be a multi-lingual Hindu and be willing to work at two jobs. You should become multi-lingual to be more successful; and you should work at two jobs in order to get two pay checks.
Once again, please do give Malaysian Prime Minister Badawi a chance. Please do support Mr.Badawi. At the same time please maintain a vigil. We will wait and see if Mr.Badawi fulfils his promise.

Muslim Malaysians (MM) often complain that non-MM are not well represented in the Malaysian armed forces. I might have a win-win solution. Read on.
After the 1969 race riots, the MM had established MM supremacy in Malaysia. As a result of the 1969 race riots, the MM had developed a bloated self-image. By 1970’s the non-MM had to tolerate MM chauvinism. MM bloated self-image and political power was used to convert Christian Kadazans to Islam, enmass; and it had limited success. In almost any multi-racial/integrated meeting after 1969 there is a shift in the balance of power in favor of the MM. At these multi-racial/integrated meetings the non-MM’s would play a subdued role. The non-MM would be very careful about what they say to the MM because the MM had a bloated self-image. The MM had indeed established supremacy in Malaysia after 1969.
There is a need for the MM to understand that just because the non-MM keep quiet, it does not mean that the MM national policies are popular among the non-MM. Keeping quiet is only keeping quiet. Keeping quite is an act of submission to MM bloated self-image. The non-MM keep quiet because they have been subdued by the 1969 race riots. The important point to remember is that whenever there is a multi-racial/integrated meeting, it weakens the non-MM and strengthens the MM. This is the reality.
Therefore how do you strengthen the non-MM? If the non-MM hold a meeting without the presence of the MM, then it would strengthen the non-MM. This is “separate but equal”.
I am Indian Malaysian and so I will discuss the Indian Malaysians (IM). IM, as I define it to be, is mostly Hindu Malaysians whose ancestors came to Malaysia from the Republic of India. I am not in a position to speak for the other communities. The other communities should speak for themselves. The MM often complain that IM are not well represented in the Malaysian armed forces. Why is that few IM are joining the Malaysian armed forces? I do not know. But I can guess. If the IM join the Malaysian armed forces, then they would immediately have to face the MM. When the IM face the MM, there is immediately a shift in the balance of power in favor of the MM. The IM would be very careful about what they say to the MM. The IM would have to tolerate MM chauvinism. When the IM face the MM, the IM would immediately psychologically weaken and the MM would strengthen. The MM would assert their supremacy and walk around as boss because they claim to be bumiputra. The word “bumiputra” is the trump card of the MM. It is painful when you put one ethnic group over another ethnic group. There are always misgivings, faux pas, and ethnic jokes between different ethnic groups. When there is abuse from one ethnic group on another ethnic group, it is alarming any where in this world. However, as the IM become more and more educated and their self-esteem increases, the IM will assert themselves and struggle for equality. The solution is segregation. That is, segregated regiments in the Malaysian armed forces. It would be difficult and painful for high school and college educated IM to continue to submit to MM supremacy; and this may be one reason why few IM join the Malaysian armed forces.
May be 200 years ago even slavery would have been tolerated, but not any more. As time goes on it would be increasingly difficult for IM to submit to MM supremacy. As the IM become more and more educated, it would be increasingly difficult for the IM to submit to MM supremacy. As the self-esteem of the IM grows it will become increasingly difficult for the IM to submit to MM supremacy. There are always misgivings, faux pas, and ethnic jokes between different ethnic groups and the solution is segregated units. When there is abuse from one ethnic group on another ethnic group, it invokes a strong response. The solution is separate but equal regiments.
Therefore what we need in Malaysia is an attempt by the Malaysian government to raise an IM-only regiment in the armed forces. This regiment will be composed of only Indian Malaysians (IM). This IM regiment will be loyal to Malaysia. This IM regiment will serve as the protector of the IM community in Malaysia. Under no circumstances should the MM be present in the IM regiment or IM barracks, because the mere sight of MM will only weaken the IM psychologically.
It is widely known that IM submit to MM supremacy because the IM fear the Malay Regiment. After 50 years of independence, it may be time to find ways to remove this fear of the Malay Regiment. We should use “separate but equal” to remove the fear. The Malay Regiment will serve as the protector of the MM community, and the IM regiment will serve as the protector of the IM community in Malaysia. This is a win-win.
Each nation has to take decisions based on its own realities. I think the government of Malaysia should seriously consider raising an IM regiment.
During the Second World War the Japanese Army had separate Japanese and Korean units. I think this is the Eastern way. I think this is the Asian way. Asians have strong ties to their roots and do not easily integrate with other groups. This is the Look East way. I think if the Malaysian government tries to raise an IM regiment, she may get good support from the IM community in Malaysia.
During the Japanese Occupation of Malaya, Subhas Chandra Bose was able to raise the Indian National Army (INA) from the Indian population in Malaya. The INA people I talked to a few decades ago, have told me that the Japanese soldiers have never ever interfered in the INA camps in Malaya. That is, the Japanese soldiers strictly observed the segregation. I think this is the Asian way. I think this is the Look East way. Asians have to be dealt with the way they are. If you listen to how the Japanese talk about Koreans, or for that matter, how the Koreans talk about the Japanese or Chinese, it does not take too long before you figure out that they are a segregated people. There are always misgivings and ethnic jokes between different groups and the solution is segregated units. I think integration is not a strong point among Asians. Even the Army of the Republic of India has a separate Madras Regiment. To find out more about the Madras Regiment, please go to www.google.com and type the words MADRAS REGIMENT.
I must emphasize that the atrocities committed by the Japanese troops during the Japanese Occupation can never be justified.
A defenseless community is a nervous community. A defenseless community is also prone to victimization.
I was in the Hulu Perak (Lengong/Sungai Kenering) area in early 1980’s for construction work. Some of my Chinese Malaysian (CM) work mates reported to me the following. Sometimes female CM rubber tappers violate the curfew because they want to tap as many rubber trees as possible to increase income. However, the MM soldiers catch them and do body search. Imagine a male MM soldier doing a body search of female CM: the male MM soldiers touch the females in areas they should not. This is not the first time male MM soldiers have violated female non-MM. When there is abuse from one ethnic group on another ethnic group, it is alarming any where in this world. I would strongly recommend that the CM request the government of Malaysia to raise a CM-only regiment to protect the interests of the CM community. We also need a Orang Asli regiment for the same reason. Yes, I have also heard that male MM soldiers have taken advantage of Orang Asli females too. At the same time I must add that many MM have been generous to me. I have trained some MM for work, and there are some MM Mara graduates who have trained me too. I will always love them. Even some of the MM soldiers in the Lenggong area have been kind to me. I also saw disparity between rich and poor. Yes, the MM are certainly not the richest community in Malaysia. Some MM could barely read and write. They are citizens of Malaysia, and are entitled to public assistance programs.
It does not take too long before you can figure out that the terms like national integration and national unity have been used to maintain MM supremacy in Malaysia because it puts one ethnic group on top of another ethnic group . At any racially integrated meeting, the non-MM have to be careful about what they say to the MM. National unity and national integration are bad words for the non-MM.
Just to give you another example, once a bus load my friends (both MM and non-MM) and I had gone on an outing. The CM bus driver dropped us at some Chinese food stalls along the way. While I was busy eating Chinese food I suddenly saw some of my MM friends walking back and forth looking for a Muslim food outlet. My MM friends could not find a Muslim food outlet. Apparently, none of us cared about them and kept on eating the delicious Chinese food. It shows how insensitive we are to the needs of others. I do not know how my MM brothers and sisters ate that day, but I ate well though. Yes, I am a sinner. I should have helped my MM brothers and sisters find Muslim food. What is the solution? We should have 3 buses, a MM bus, a CM bus, and an IM bus. Would that help? May be. If you have a better way, please do try. Pardon me for saying this, but it is a headache going out with MM’s because they do not eat what we eat. Wait a minute. If the bus driver was a MM then the non-MM would starve for a day. What did we learn? Please choose your bus driver wisely. If you still think that Malaysia is not a diverse nation, please do guess again.
There is crime in USA everyday. There are whites who commit crimes against whites. There are African-Americans who commit crimes against African-Americans too. But in 1995 OJ Simpson was put on trial of murdering his ex-wife. OJ Simpson was acquitted in 1995. In my humble opinion, the reason why this trial had such wide publicity in USA is because he was African-American and his ex-wife was a White American. Watch out. When there is abuse from one ethnic group on another ethnic group, it is alarming any where in this world. Watch out. When there is abuse from one ethnic group on another ethnic group, it invokes a strong response.
In any case, we must find ways to co-exist. Finding ways to coexist is the responsibility of all Malaysians. Putting one ethnic group on top of another ethnic group is not acceptable. There are always misgivings, faux pas, and ethnic jokes between different groups and the solution is segregated units. When there is abuse from one ethnic group on another ethnic group, it is alarming any where in this world. When there is abuse from one ethnic group on another ethnic group, it invokes a strong response. Separate regiments is better. Try separate regiments.
The IM need a stake in Malaysia. The IM need a reward in Malaysia. The Batu Caves culture, the Tamil Schools, and the IM-only regiment should become the unquestionable property of the IM community. The IM community will defend Malaysia to defend the Batu Caves culture. The IM community will defend Malaysia to defend the Tamil schools. The IM community will defend Malaysia to defend the IM-only regiment.
Asking for a separate IM-only regiment is not an attempt to encourage a racial divide, but to prevent abuse. When there is abuse or ethnic jokes from one ethnic group on another ethnic group, it is alarming any where in this world. When there is abuse from one ethnic group on another ethnic group, it invokes a strong response.
The MM have taught me that national constitutions mean nothing. The MM have taught me that separate regiment is better. At this point I would like to commend the MM for having taught me a valuable lesson in life. I have been transformed. I have learned that merging with your own community is better than merging with the constitution. From an integrationist I have become a segregationist. Try separate regiments.
Do you want to manage Malaysia the easy way or the hard way? Always talking about national unity and integration in order to manage Malaysia is the hard way because there is no such thing as national unity or integration. Integrated meetings have disadvantages too because if there is abuse from one group on another group, it is alarming any where in this world. Asians are Asian and have to be dealt with the Asian way. We have to use divide and rule. There are always misgivings, faux pas, and ethnic jokes between different groups and the solution is segregated units. We have to divide Malaysia into communities and let the various communities manage themselves. This is the easy way. Therefore separate regiments is a good thing. Try separate regiments.
It is the same during the Mughal/Muslim era in India. Apparently when the Mughals/Muslims ruled India, it strengthened the Muslims and weakened the Hindus. Today, the Mughal/Muslim era is no more in India. The British came by and toppled the Mughal/Muslim rulers. A few centuries later Mahatma Gandhi, in turn, came by and toppled the British rule using civil disobedience. Today the Indian subcontinent is divided into Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan. Today, India is stabilizing, while Bangladesh and Pakistan are unstable. Apparently, the Muslims are at their best when they rule non-Muslims. I guess if I got a chance, I would rule others too because it is easier. Wait a minute. The Mughals/Muslims have left behind in India some of the famous architecture and cuisines. Muslim Indians are well represented in Bollywood as movie stars. (In fact, I am trying to learn Hindi so that I can understand SRK in DVD Hindi movies.) Abdul Kalam, a Muslim Indian, became a popular President in India; and he continues to inspire Indians even as ex-President.
A closer relationship between Malaysia and Singapore is not impossible. Again, you have to divide the people, not unite the people. If only you care to divide the population into different ethnic groups, the peoples on both sides of the Straits of Johore automatically link up. There are Malays on both sides of the Straits of Johore, there are Chinese on both sides of the Straits of Johore, and there are Indians on both sides of the Straits of Johore. The Straits of Johore is just salt water and blood is thicker than water. Besides, too much salt is bad for your health!
The Malays on both sides of the Straits of Johore should meet secretly to discuss and promote separate regiments; and the contents of the agreement should never be made public. The Chinese on both sides of the Straits of Johore should meet secretly to discuss and promote separate regiments; and the contents of the agreement should never be made public. The Indians on both sides of the Straits of Johore should meet secretly to discuss and promote separate regiments; and the contents of the agreement should never be made public.
I would strongly recommend that the MIC persuade the Malaysian government to raise an IM regiment. There must be an assurance that the MM would not in any way interfere in the IM regiment because the sight of MM will only weaken the IM psychologically.
Yes, the Muslim Malaysians (MM) often complain that non-MM are not well represented in the Malaysian armed forces. A segregated IM-only regiment might help to increase the IM representation in the Malaysian armed forces. It took me until January 2008 to figure this out.
Please do give your support to Malaysian Prime Minister Badawi.
Please do urge the MIC to persuade the Malaysian government to raise an IM-only regiment. Nothing can be achieved if there is no unity among the IM. There must be total unity among the IM community. The IM community must give their unity to MIC. The MIC must be declared the sole representative of the IM community.
I will continue to maintain that the separate regiments way is the best way to manage Malaysia and bring about stability rapidly. I was born in Malaysia and therefore I do care about social stability in Malaysia. We have to find a way to continue the social stability in Malaysia. Malaysia is not Africa. Malaysia is Malaysia. We need to keep our social stability. We need to under go power-sharing too. I think the people in Malaysia have social stability expectations. We have three major races in Malaysia, the MM, the CM, and the IM. There are other minority groups too. The MM, the CM, and the IM should form the 3 pillars of stability in Malaysia. The MM should have the MM regiment, the CM should have a CM regiment, and the IM should have the IM regiment; and these 3 separate regiments will form the 3 pillars of social stability in Malaysia.
Since the 3 groups are diverse, what we would have between the 3 groups is room. This room is the space that the smaller minority groups need to use to perpetuate their respective cultures. For instance, the Christian Kadazans could use the room or space between the 3 diverse regiments to perpetuate their own culture. All the other minority groups too will use the space between the 3 separate regiments to perpetuate their own cultures. This is the best deal. Yes, I was born in Malaysia and I do care about social stability in Malaysia.
Suddenly if something happens and there is instability, the 3 regiments/ 3 pillars will remain unshaken and disciplined. The CM community will have faith in the CM pillar which is the CM regiment, the MM community will have faith in the MM regiment, and the IM community will have faith in the IM regiment. The CM regiment will stabilize the CM community, the IM regiment will stabilize the IM community, and the MM regiment will stabilize the MM community. Thus social stability will be restored quickly. This is the best deal. Therefore please try separate regiments.
There is unity on the one hand and privacy on the other hand, and they are diagonally opposed. When there is unity, there is no privacy. When there is no privacy, there is no coitus too. Watch out. Nobody in this world wants unity. Everybody in this world wants privacy. When there is an assurance of privacy, you can go into your room, lock the door and engage in coitus with your partner. All 6.5 billion of us come from coitus. All 6.5 billion of us come from privacy. What you do inside your home is none of my business, and what I do inside my home is none of your business. You cannot force a woman to have coitus with a man. No woman in this world can be forced to have coitus with a man. Does coitus mean integration? Does coitus mean unity? Does an inter-racial relation mean coitus? Are coitus, integration, inter-racial relations, and unity synonymous? I do not know. You tell me. There is no such thing as unity in this world because what happens inside your home is none of my business; and what happens inside my home is none of your business. Please stay away from another person’s home. There is no such thing as national unity and national integration. Everybody wants privacy. Try separate regiments.
Human beings like to live with their own kind. It is a world-wide phenomenon. For instance, the African-Americans and White Americans have been sharing the USA for a few hundred years. Yet, even today, the cities in USA usually have one area that is predominantly African-American, one area that is predominantly White American, and one area that is predominantly Hispanic American. People like to associate with their own kind because they have shared values with their own kind. This is nothing new. It is a world wide phenomenon. For instance, the Tamil community in New Delhi keep their culture and observe Ponggal yearly. It is the inviolable right of the Tamil community in New Delhi to associate with their own kind and keep their Ponggal culture. Sometimes different communities do different kinds of work; and this is also okay.
Yes, please stay away from another person’s home. There is no such thing as open house during religious festivals. My home is my castle and I will determine who will enter my home. Even members of my own ethnic group have no right to enter my home unless they are invited in by me. Even members of my own family have no right to enter my home unless they are invited in by me. Politicians who encourage open house during religious festivals should stop doing so immediately. Human beings are diverse. We are dealing with different kinds of people. Not all people like the open house during religious festivals. I warn you. Do not make the mistake of knocking on my door because I would be glad to chase you away with my hammer. Just to give you an example, I had once visited a home of a friend of mine. All of a sudden I was in the midst of a family feud inside his home. I was caught in the cross fire. It occurred to me that I was in the wrong place. It occurred to me that we should never visit another person’s home because it violates the homeowner’s privacy. If you do have a home, then stay in your home. If you are wandering around, then you must be homeless. Do not even allow door to door salesmen to enter your home. Those who want to meet you, must meet you outside your home. Please do work at two jobs so that you can get two pay checks and keep going. Yes, keep going/chalte jana.
People often wonder how a pluralistic society like Malaysia has social stability. To find out, please read on. We are going back to about 100 or 150 years ago. When the first Chinese male’s arrived in Malaysia about 150 years ago, they were careful not to engage in coitus with MM females. If the Chinese males had engaged in coitus with MM females, then it would have resulted in social unrest and the history of Malaysia would be different. So the Chinese males brought Chinese females for reproductive activity. Like wise, 100 years ago the Indian males were careful not engage in coitus with MM females. So the Indian males brought Indian females for reproductive activity too. This was the gentlemen’s agreement among the three communities: each community would use its own females for reproduction. It is this gentlemen’s agreement that gave social stability. The three communities lived apart from each other and sometimes did different kinds of work. It was this social stability that made Malaysia into what it is today. This gentlemen’s agreement should continue to be honored. Malaysia is not the nation for integration. If you integrate it might get worse before it gets better. I will continue to maintain that the separate regiments way is the best way to manage Malaysia. The CM community will have faith in the CM pillar which is the CM regiment, the MM community will have faith in the MM regiment, and the IM community will have faith in the IM regiment.
Each nation should take decisions based on its own realities. I think separate regiments are the Eastern way. I think this is the Asian way. Asians have strong ties to their roots and do not easily integrate with other groups. This is the Look East way. Integration is the western way. Segregation is the eastern way. Thus social stability will be restored quickly.
Please do give your support to Malaysian Prime Minister Mr.Badawi and Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Mr.Najib Razak. Please give them a chance.
Please do urge the MIC to persuade the Malaysian government to raise an IM-only regiment. Nothing can be achieved if there is no unity among the IM. There must be total unity among the IM community. The IM community must give their unity to MIC. The MIC must be declared the sole representative of the IM community.

Let’s have some comedy. Some times I like to be a comedian. Wait a minute/konjam nilluingal/ek moment/choto mateh kudasai. They call it Malaysia. To me, it is more than Malaysia: it is the nation of my birth. If you do not know about sunrise, please do not sweat it because the Malaysian roosters keep us informed daily about sunrise. As the sun rises from the Pacific Ocean, the night surrenders to the day. The Malaysian palm trees sway to the winds. They will one day build a tower taller than the tallest tower in the world because it is the country of my birth. Yes, this is my recollection of Malaysia. Don’t forget the notorious monkeys of Batu Caves. Yes, I have not forgotten my beloved Malaysia yet. May the teh tarek seller (teh tarek valla) continue to tarek the teh because it beats expresso any day, for some. Mothers, please do make sure that your children are well fed. Students, please do make sure that you brush your teeth and wear your uniform to go to school. Malaysia is the nation where saris compete with sarongs for attention. Yes, this is the nation of my birth, my friends. May the satay seller continue to sell satay because it is the nation of my birth. May the noodle stir fry seller/noodle valla continue to sell noodle stir fry because it is the nation of my birth. They also have other edibles like rendang, roti canai, and laksa. Yes, I have not eaten curry stew and rice on a banana leaf in a while. Nobody starves in Malaysia. They also have other minority groups such as Kadazans and people in long houses. It is a plural society. They have Chinese language schools, Malay language schools, and Tamil language schools. It’s a cacophony society. Despite that, barring a few exceptions, social stability is all they have known. Keep going/chalte jana. When you are tired, please do take a break.
I do not know why the Dutch colonials left behind red buildings in Melaka. Wait a minute/konjam nilluingal/ek moment. I know. Because the Dutch were communists. I’m just kidding. The Sta. Maria’s lament that the Portuguese colonial era is long since over in Melaka. Don’t sweat it, Mr.Sta.Maria, the Malaysian era is not over yet. Keep going/chalte jana.
I do not know why Kelantan is also known as the land of the lightning. Wait a minute/konjam nilluingal/ek moment. I know. May be Kelantan is the place where they invented the lightning! I don’t’ know/ malum nahi. I’m just kidding. The Kelantanese have skilled top spinners, kite-flying, and wayang kulit.
Do you know that the Kelantanese rats are bigger than KL rats. Are the cats in Kelantan bigger too? Even the sea food in Kelantan is bigger.
Malaysia is a Little India, Little China, and a Little Indonesia. It’s the 3-in-one place. Wait a minute/ek moment. There are other minority groups too. We have Kadazans and Ibans too. It’s the many-in-one place.
But the sun will eventually descend into the Straits of Malacca. The day will surrender to the night. Mothers, please make sure that your children are well fed. Students, please finish your home work before going to sleep. Parents, please do continue to find ways to balance income and expenditure. As Malaysia sleeps she will continue to inhale and exhale. Don’t’ sweat it. Within a few hours the Malaysian roosters will dutifully keep us informed of sunrise; and it would be the beginning of a new day and there is plenty of work to be done in the nation of my birth. They call it Malaysia.
Please do give your support to Malaysian Prime Minister Mr.Badawi and Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Mr.Najib Razak. Please give them a chance.
Please do urge the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) to persuade the Malaysian government to raise an IM-only regiment. Nothing can be achieved if there is no unity among the IM. There must be total unity among the IM community. The IM community must give their unity to MIC. The MIC must be declared the sole representative of the IM community. When it is time to vote, please do vote for MIC and all other candidates supported by MIC. MIC is the defender of Tamil schools and Hindu temples in Malaysia. The non-IM have no right to interfere in the MIC.
.......................................................................................
The elections are over and the results are out. I guess the makkal shakti/people power have asserted themselves. I am surprised. But I am not the only one to be surprised. Many people are surprised. Makkal shakti/people power was used by Mahatma Gandhi to topple centuries of British rule. In Poland (in the 1980’s) the Polish workers overthrew the Communist dictatorship using people power/makkal shakti. In the Philippines, people power/makkal shakti was used to overthrow the Marcos government. In Malaysia in March 2008, makkal shakti/people power was used together with the ballot box to bring political change. It did not turn out the way I had predicted. Any way, many people are surprised. It is mind boggling.
I will continue to maintain that we have to find a solution to the Malay Regiment problem in Malaysia. If we have a Malay-only regiment called the Malay Regiment, then we should also have a Indian-only regiment called the Indian Regiment, and also a Chinese-only Regiment called the Chinese Regiment.
I think at this time UMNO needs MCA, MIC, and Gerakan more than ever before. If MCA, MIC, and Gerakan abandon UMNO, then UMNO may have problems rising again. Similarly, if UMNO abandons MCA, MIC, and Gerakan, then MCA, MIC, and Gerakan would become history too. So UMNO, MCA, MIC, and Gerakan are interdependent. If they are interdependent, then they are interdependent. Interdependent is a good thing. How about the separate regiments in the armed forces which I have continuously written about? I think UMNO should take the initiative to form a separate IM-only regiment in the Malaysian armed forces. If UMNO takes the initiative, then it would be a credit to UMNO. If some other party takes the initiative, then it would not be a credit to UMNO. I think UMNO should make good on her promise of power-sharing by forming an IM-only regiment in the Malaysian armed forces. If UMNO does take the initiative to form an IM-only regiment, then it would be a part of UMNO legacy for ever. If UMNO wants to be remembered well, then she should take the initiative to have separate regiments in the Malaysian armed forces.
Malaysia’s national constitution has never been known for egalitarianism. Though Islam is the official religion in Malaysia’s constitution, the ground reality is that Malaysia is a multi-religious nation. The ground reality is the ground reality. Nothing can change the ground reality. Kadazan Malaysians are part of the bumiputra/indigenous population of Malaysia. Most Kadazan Malaysians are Christians. If Kadazan Malaysians are mostly Christians, then why does the federal constitution of Malaysia have Islam as the official religion? The non-Muslim population of Malaysia, who are almost half of the national population, deserve an answer.
Even the Malays were largely hinduized before the 15 century. There were early Indianized kingdoms such as Langkasuka, Sri Vijaya, and Majapahit. After the 15 century, the Malays converted to Islam. Today almost half of Malaysia’s population are non-Muslims. Besides, not all bumiputras are Muslims. Yet, Malaysia has Islam as the official religion in the constitution. When a religion has constitutional political power, it goes against the equality of the other religions. Why? The non-Muslim population of Malaysia, who are almost half of the national population, deserve an answer. A special status for Islam in Malaysia is unacceptable.
I personally have nothing against my Malay brothers and sisters. Malays have been some of the kindest people I have met. There is a difference between Malay and Islam. Malay is a race, while Islam is a religion. A special status for Islam in Malaysia is unacceptable. We have to separate Malay from Islam. You do not have to be a Muslim to be a bumiputra; and not all bumiputras are Muslims. Before the 15 century, the Malays were largely Hinduized. Bahasa Malaysia is an Islamic language, while Bahasa Indonesia is a secular language. We have to make Bahasa Malaysia into a secular language, and Malaysia a secular nation. We have to separate religion from politics. Both Indonesia and India are republics. By now you would know that the non-Muslim citizens of Malaysia have shown a tremendous amount of patience and tolerance for Malaysia’s absurd national constitution.
In the Philippines, the Chinese and Filipinos socialize. In Thailand, the Chinese and Thais socialize. In Malaysia, the Chinese and Malays do not socialize adequately after having shared the same nation for more than a hundred years. Why? The problem in Malaysia is Islam, not Malays. Islam is the deterrent. Islam prevents Chinese from socializing with Malays; and I cannot be blunter in stating it. I am Hindu and I do not like Muslims too. I wished the Malays were anything but Muslims. Unfortunately, Malays are Muslims. We have to find a solution to this problem.
I am not opposed to public assistance for the poor and the needy. At least as far as I am concerned, most of the poor in Malaysia are the bumiputras. Reservations and public assistance for the poor and the needy should continue on a non-racial and non-religious basis. There is no nation in this world that can claim to be a meritocracy.
In any case, there will be no such thing as blind loyalty to UMNO, or any political party. Only a fool will give blind loyalty. There is no such thing as we will sink or sail with UMNO. Voters cannot afford to give blind loyalty. UMNO should be put to the credibility test. We will wait and see.
In all fairness I would have to give credit to Mr.Anwar Ibrahim. By 20 March 2008 we know that Mr.Anwar Ibrahim and his party, the PKR, have made a come back. I would have forgotten Mr.Anwar Ibrahim, but he made a surprising political return. It is hard to forget someone who has a political presence. To find out more about him, please to go www.google.com and type the words ANWAR IBRAHIM. His website is www.anwaribrahim.com. He has not retired yet. Is Mr.Anwar Ibrahim the person to watch into the future? I do not know. We will wait and see how things go into the future.

As regards to solving the economic problems of the Indian Malaysians, please read the following.
